It is particularly important for its marshes that serve as resting places during bird migrations. Within the Reserve, human history shows a long presence. There are several archaeological and architectural settlements that testify to human life in these places since ancient Greek times. Traces of reservoir tanks from an ancient fish processing plant from the Hellenistic period can still be found, alongside which a small necropolis has also been discovered.
