Isola delle Correnti is a small, roundish island off the coast of Sicily in the Ionian Sea, located within the territory of the municipality of Portopalo. It spans approximately 10,000 m² with a maximum height of 4 m above sea level. Connected to the mainland by an artificial causeway, which has been repeatedly destroyed by the sea waves. During low tide, the island transforms into a peninsula, marking the southernmost point of the Sicilian island. On the islet stands a rectangular-shaped lighthouse, where decades ago the lighthouse keeper and his family lived, now abandoned. In front of the lighthouse, there is a large square. The islet supports sparse vegetation, including wild leeks, capers, and other shrubs typical of the Mediterranean scrubland. Since 1987, the islet has been included in the master plan for parks and nature reserves.
